Katina Wood Desmond is a versatile and multidisciplinary artist working in several media including photography, painting, pastel, collage and graphic design.

Katina was raised in Topanga Canyon, California. Her parents were both professional artists and her grandfather was an avid photographer of the Alaskan wilderness in the early 1900s. She was given her first camera at the age of eight.

Nature and art have been constant companions in Katina’s life and work. Her extensive travels throughout Europe and India have also had a profound influence on her imagery, which ranges from diverse forms within nature to mysterious symbolism within cultural iconography. She is predominantly drawn to the abstract, ethereal and emotive qualities of black and white photography which she often hand-paints with oils.

Katina studied art, photography and graphic design at Otis Art Institute and UCLA. Her work is included in numerous public, private, national and international collections. She is a founding member of 4260 Black & White Photographers Guild, and a board member of Pasadena Society of Artists.
